Another January 1st, another new year, another set of resolutions. But how many people take the time out on December 31st to revisit the resolutions drawn 364 days earlier to see how they fared. Most of us are too busy planning the evening and thinking about the year ahead. There is nothing wrong with looking forward, but to me it feels amiss to plan the future without keeping the past in perspective.
A friend of mine commented that just putting down resolutions doesn’t do anything unless there is a concrete plan in place to act upon those resolutions. For example, an open ended statement such as “I am going to lead a healthy lifestyle”, won’t do much by itself unless you have an idea of how you are going to do it and primarily what a healthy lifestyle means relative to the status-quo. Speaking in technical terms, the resolution needs to be adequately defined, with goals that can be measured quantitatively or qualitatively, and have a realistic action plan!
